Matt Bailey at Site Logic last year famously analyzed the mortality rate of red-shirted crew members from the original Star Trek series in context of Enterprise crew deaths overall. A total 43 of the 59 crew members that bought it during the three seasons (of a five year mission) that we saw were redshirts. That’s a 13.7% mortality rate (for a 430-man crew), 70% of which went to the redshirts.
That all seems pretty awful until you clip together a highlight reel of redshirt casualties and set it to an Electric Light Orchestra soundtrack. Then it’s just delicious 1960s kitsch, but with a body count.

Stocks don’t earn interest per se. Bonds earn interest. Stocks provide you with dividends and capital gains It would be more accurate to say ‘rate of return’ when referring to stocks
